The Columbus Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure presents the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure on Saturday, May 17, 2008.
The Komen Columbus Race for the Cure® is more than a race for runners or fitness walkers. It is an opportunity for people of all ages and abilities to honor a loved one who lost the battle with breast cancer, to show support of someone winning the battle now and to help raise funds to fight the disease.
Since 1993, the Komen Columbus affiliate has raised more than $11 million to help fund breast cancer programs – 75 percent of that money stays in central Ohio’s 23-county service area and is used to conduct breast cancer education, screening and treatment. The remaining 25 percent goes to Susan G. Komen for the Cure to find national breast cancer research, meritorious awards and educational and scientific conferences around the world.
The Komen Columbus Race for the Cure® is the largest road race in Ohio and ranks in the top ten of the 108 Susan G. Komen for the cure affiliates around the nation and world in race participation.
In 2006, the Race for the Cure® funded 34 local programs in our 23-service county are totaling $1.2 million in grants that are serving women and men today. On May 19, 2007, 37,278 people participated in the 15th Anniversary Komen Columbus Race for the Cure® in downtown Columbus. These participants, along with our sponsors, volunteers and special friends raised nearly $2 million – to be granted out in the 2007 grant cycle.
The 5K (3.1 miles) Co-ed Run/Fitness Walk and One-mile Fun Walk will take place in downtown Columbus with over 40,000 male and female runners and walkers expected to participate. More than 1,200 Volunteers will support this event.
Entry forms for the 2008 Race will be available online beginning January 1, 2008 at www.komencolumbus.org and paper entry forms will be available after March 1, 2008 at local sponsor locations.
