Sculptra Injectable Facial Filler gaining popularity at Columbus Aesthetic & Plastic Surgery

Sculptra Aesthetic is a newer injectable facial filler offered in the United States for cosmetic treatments, however it has been used in Europe for cosmetic facial treatments since 1999.  It has increasingly been gaining popularity since its initial introduction in the US Market.

How does it work?

Sculptra works by helping to replace lost collagen in series of injectable treatments.  (typically 3 treatments over a period of 3 months)   Facial aging begins in your 20’s, when your collagen production decreases , resulting in shallow to deep facial folds and wrinkles over time – most generally starting to appear in your 30’s.  Sculptra actually works to correct these folds by stimulating your own collagen production at the injection site. It is great for increasing facial volume for the entire face.

Sculptra may be combined with procedures like Botox to create a “Liquid Face Lift”

What is the Sculptra Treatment like?

Sculptra Injections are usually performed in a series of 3 injectable treatments done in the physician’s office.  Often it is combined with a local anesthetic or a topical numbing agent to maximize patient comfort.  The treatment usually lasts about 15 minutes and the patient can resume normal activities.

How is it different from Juvederm & Restylane?

Sculptra Aesthetic is different from facial fillers such as Juvederm & Restylane because it gradually and subtly corrects these facial wrinkles.  Correction with Juvederm & Restylane can be seen instantly.  Sculptra can last two years or more (compared to 6months – 1 year for other fillers)

Juvederm & Restylane are made of synthetic hyaluronic acid.  Sculptra  is made of Poly-l-Lactic acid, which is the same substance used in dissolvable stitches and soft tissue implants. Your body produces a natural form of Poly-l-lactic acid during exercise.
