5 Skin Care Tips for Battling the Winter Months!

Winter skin care should not be taken lightly. For many people, the cold winter months can wreak havoc on one’s skin. As temperatures fall and the air becomes drier, your skin pays the price. Unfortunately, you won’t find any relief for your skin indoors either. The combination of low humidity and forced-air, from indoor heaters, creates an arid environment that leaches the moisture from our skin. These factors can lead to dry, itchy, and irritated skin.

At Columbus Aesthetic and Plastic Surgery, we know how to keep your skin healthy during these winter months.

Here are five simple winter skin care tips that can help protect your skin during this dry time of the year:

1 If we haven’t said it enough, Moisturize!

All moisturizers are different, the one you use in the summer might not be enough to battle the winter. This winter, find a moisturizer that’s oil-based, rather than water-based. An oil-based moisturizer will create a protective layer on your skin that can retain more moisture better than a water-based cream or lotion.

2 Wait, what? Sunscreen, in the winter?

Yes, sunscreen! Sunscreen isn’t just for the beach! Winter sun, combined with snow glare can still damage your skin. To prevent skin damage, apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen to your face and your hands along with SPF-based makeup!

3 Take a load off your hands!

The skin on your hands is thinner than most parts of the body and has fewer oil glands; this makes it much easier for your hands to dry out or even start cracking! Make sure you wear gloves when you go outside this winter and always keep a good moisturizer with you!

4 Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate!

If you’ve heard it once, you’ve heard it a thousand times: Drinking water helps your skin stay hydrated and looking radiant! Our body’s organs need water to survive. Your skin is the largest organ of the body, without water, this organ will certainly not function or look its best!

5 Seek a Specialist

Why go to a drug store to ask a salesperson about your skin when you can come to Columbus Aesthetic & Plastic Surgery and speak to a medical esthetician? Our specialists can analyze your skin type, troubleshoot your current skin care regimen, and give you advice on the skin care products that are best for YOUR skin!
