Life After Liposuction

Liposuction

Liposuction is an incredibly popular cosmetic procedure. One reason for its popularity is that it provides real, immediate results. In fact, 80% of surveyed patients were satisfied with their results and 75% said they would recommend the procedure to their family and friends. At CAPS, we love seeing the increased self-confidence our patients feel after they receive liposuction. We want these patients to maintain their excellent results for years to come, which is why we’ve put together a list of recommendations for your post-liposuction lifestyle. It is important to note that liposuction is just one step toward accomplishing and maintaining your goals. After the procedure, it is important to continue to lead a healthy lifestyle. Below, you’ll find a list of our recommendations and an explanation of the importance of following each one.

1. Exercise

Immediately after your surgery, you should avoid strenuous physical activity. You may, however, start walking right away. Walking can help you to stay fit during the recovery process. After about two weeks, you should be able to return to the gym. By establishing an exercise schedule and sticking to it, you can maintain the results of your liposuction for the long term.

2. Eat Well

Liposuction is not a weight management technique. It is a procedure that is intended to rid your body of stubborn fat that has not responded to diet and exercise. In order to maintain your results you should adopt healthy eating habits. We recommend eating plenty of fresh fruits, vegetables and lean meats while decreasing your intake of carbohydrates and salt.

3. Stay Hydrated

Staying hydrated can keep you healthy, increase your energy levels, and decrease your snack cravings. Start carrying a bottle of water with you at all times as it is the best option for staying hydrated. If you choose to drink something else, try pure fruit juice. We recommend avoiding soda, as it tends to contain a good deal of “empty calories” and even diet sodas contain carbonation which can cause bloating.

4. Relax

Stress remains as one of the top causes of weight gain. When you’re stressed, the level of cortisol in your system increases, which heightens your desire to binge and decreases the amount of calories burned per minute. Whether you encounter stressful situations at work or in your personal life, try your best to take a step back and breathe. Take up yoga, explore your spiritual side with meditation, or start reading daily to help relax your mind and body. The more at-peace you feel, the more your body will thank you!
