Frequently Asked Questions

Is an arm lift right for me?

The plastic surgeons at CAPS can help you to determine the answer to this question. They will take the time to get to know your unique medical history and aesthetic goals before recommending a procedure. If you’re ready to see if an arm lift is right for you, schedule a consultation today.

What is an arm lift?

An arm lift, or brachioplasty, is a cosmetic surgical procedure that can rejuvenate your arms by reducing excess sagging skin that droops downward, tightening and smoothing the underlying supportive tissue to better define the shape of the upper arm and reducing fat in the upper arm region.

What should I expect after my surgery?

Your doctor will give you instructions regarding your post-operative care. Following these instructions will help you to heal well and to enjoy optimal results.

What should I expect before my arm lift?

Before your arm lift, you may be asked to get lab testing or a medical evaluation, take certain medications or adjust your current medications, stop smoking, and avoid taking aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs, and herbal supplements that may increase bleeding.

We will also give you special instructions about what to do the night before and morning of your surgery and regarding your post-operative care and follow-up appointments.

If we can make your arm lift experience easier for you in any way, just let us know. We’re happy to help our out-of-towners to book hotel rooms or to do anything else we can to make your experience as smooth as possible.

What should I expect during my consultation?

At CAPS, the satisfaction of our patients is our priority. That’s why we place a great deal of importance on your consultation. The goal of the consultation is to determine if an arm lift is the right choice for you. During your consultation, your doctor will explain the full procedure to you and will ask you several questions, including:

  • Why do you want an arm lift?

  • What are your expectations for the procedure?

  • What is your desired outcome?

  • Do you have any drug allergies?

  • What previous medical treatments have you received?

  • Have you had any previous surgeries? If so, what were they?

In addition to asking these questions, your plastic surgeon will use your consultation to evaluate your general health status and any preexisting health conditions or risk factors you may have, discuss your arm lift options, take photographs for your medical record, recommend a course of treatment, discuss likely outcomes of an arm lift and any risks or potential complications, and answer any questions you may have.

What will happen during my arm lift?

First, you’ll be administered anesthesia. Your plastic surgeon will recommend the anesthesia option that is best for you. Then, you’ll go to sleep while your skilled plastic surgeon and well-trained staff perform the arm lift. The exact procedure will vary depending on your unique needs and desired outcomes. Your doctor can walk you through every step of the procedure when you meet prior to your arm lift.

What will my results be like?

Your results will be visible almost immediately and, provided you maintain a stable weight and general fitness, long-lasting. By trusting the skilled plastic surgeons at CAPS to perform your arm lift, you can be confident that you are in good hands.
