Frequently Asked Questions

Breast Augmentation

Are breast augmentation consultations free?

At CAPS, we take great pride in the attention and individualization we provide for each patient. There is a fee associated with our consultations; however, it will be applied to your surgery.

Are breast augmentations and breast implants covered by insurance?

In general, breast augmentation is considered a cosmetic procedure and is not covered by insurance. However, there may be some instances where insurance companies will cover the cost of breast implants if they are deemed medically necessary, such as in cases where breast reconstruction is necessary after mastectomy or as part of gender-affirming surgery. It is important to check with your specific insurance provider to determine what coverage, if any, may be available.

CAPS offers multiple financing options to help make your breast augmentation procedure affordable. From payment plans, to medical credit cards, to loans, our providers will work with you to find an option that fits your budget.

Do breast implants feel real?

Breast implants can provide a natural-look and feel to the breasts. The degree of realism will depend on several factors including the size of the implant, the placement, and the patient’s natural breast tissue. Most patients report that their implants feel very natural and that they are highly satisfied with the results of their breast augmentation surgery

Do breast implants need to be replaced?

At CAPS, we typically recommend replacing most implants after around 15-20 years. It is important to know that your likelihood of lasting success is high, especially when you work with a skilled plastic surgeon. Below are a few occasions that a follow-up procedure may be necessary.

  • Rupture or deflation: A very rare event in both saline and silicone implants but safe and not toxic to the body if it does occur. In this event, a revision would be necessary.

  • Development of capsule contracture: If thickened scar tissue forms around your breast implant, it can harden and change the position or shape. Although rare, in these instances, another procedure to remove the thickened scar tissue and replace the implants would be necessary.

At Columbus Aesthetic & Plastic Surgery, we want our patients to feel comfortable and confident in the decisions they make regarding surgery. Make sure to do your research on the procedure that interests you as well as find a plastic surgeon with experience in this area.

How long to recover from a breast augmentation?
  • A full breast augmentation recovery typically takes about 6 weeks after surgery.

  • Two to three days after surgery: During this time, you will experience swelling as the wound heals.

  • Ten to 21 days after surgery: Patients are usually permitted low-impact lower body physical activity at this time, but are still advised against upper body resistance exercise and any straining or lifting over 10 pounds.

  • Three to four weeks after surgery: Pain and swelling have likely completely subsided. Patients can begin to participate in higher impact exercises and can begin exercises that incorporate the upper body. As each patient is different, it is important to check with your physician to see exactly how long you should wait to perform these exercises.

  • Six weeks after surgery: The implants have likely dropped from their initial position and developed a more natural shape. At this point, swelling should be down to 5-10% and patients will likely feel that the healing is nearly entirely complete.

How much a does breast augmentation cost?

The cost of a breast augmentation can vary depending on various factors including the surgeon and the type of implants used. The average breast augmentation cost in Ohio is between $4,000-$10,000.

Is breast augmentation safe?

Breast augmentation is considered safe, but with any surgical procedure, there are risks and potential complications to be aware of. During your consultation, your surgeon will discuss these risk factors with you and ensure you are well educated on the procedure and recovery.

What types of breast implants are available?

The two main types of breast implants are saline and silicone. Both are popular options among our patients. Saline implants are filled with sterile saltwater and are inserted into the breast before being filled. Silicone implants are pre-filled with a silicone gel and are typically considered to have a more natural look and feel than saline implants.

Both types of implants come in different shapes and sizes to fit each patient's individual needs and preferences. During your initial consultation, your doctor will review your options and help you determine which implant will be best for your individual needs.

What will my results be like?

With the skilled plastic surgeons at CAPS, you can be confident that your breast augmentation will be performed with the precision that is required to obtain optimal results. We’re proud to have helped thousands of women get the results they deserve. See results.

Will my breast augmentation scars fade?

There are several types of incisions that can be used for breast augmentation, including inframammary (in the breast crease), periareolar (around the nipple), and transaxillary (in the armpit). Any scars you may have from your breast augmentation surgery will typically fade over time. To help minimize scarring, it’s important to carefully follow post-operative care instructions provided by your plastic surgeon.
