Breast Augmentation vs Breast Lift: Which is right for you?

At CAPS, we understand that everyone is unique. We also understand that every one of our patients has unique aesthetic goals. That’s why we never take a one-size-fits-all approach. Instead, we meet with each patient during a one-on-one consultation and take the time to get to know them, their aesthetic goals, and body type. Only then do we recommend a course of action.

When it comes to cosmetic breast surgery, we follow this same approach. The two most common cosmetic breast surgeries are breast augmentation and breast lift. Depending on a patient’s body type and aesthetic goals, one or both of these surgeries might be right for them.

Typically, breast augmentation is a popular choice for women who would like to enhance the size of their breasts or to balance the appearance of uneven breasts. A breast augmentation is a cosmetic surgery that involves placing silicone or saline implants beneath your breast tissue and pectoral muscle. These implants serve to increase the size of your breasts. They can also be used to balance the appearance of uneven breasts. Breast implants come in all sizes which means you have a great deal of control over the extent to which you enhance your breast size.

On the other hand, breast lifts are popular procedures amongst women who are unhappy with the way their breasts sit on their chests. For example, they may feel that their breasts sit too low or “sag.” Breast lifts do exactly what the name suggests. They lift the breast tissue so that it sits on the chest as the patient wants it to. The procedure works by removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue to improve the shape of the breast.

For women who would like to enhance the size of their breasts and would like for them to sit higher on their chests, a combination surgery of breast augmentation and breast lift might be the best option. Luckily, these surgeries can be performed during a single appointment, so you can achieve the results of two distinct surgeries while only going under anesthesia once.

Although it may appear that there are only a few options when it comes to cosmetic breast surgery: augmentation, lift, or both, it’s all in the details. Each option is customized and tailored to the individual so that optimal results can be achieved. For example, there is a wide range of implant sizes available for women who choose to have a breast augmentation. You’ll work with your Board Certified Plastic Surgeon to determine which size will best help you to achieve your unique aesthetic goals. Rest assured, no matter which cosmetic breast procedure you choose, your Board Certified Plastic Surgeon will tailor it to your specific needs.
