What is liposuction?
Liposuction is a cosmetic procedure that can improve your body contours and proportions by removing excess fat deposits. These stubborn fatty deposits are typically those that diet and exercise alone have not been able to improve.
Liposuction may be used on: the thighs; the hips and buttocks; the abdomen and waist; the upper arms; the back; the inner knee; the chest; the cheeks, chin, and neck; and the calves and ankles.
There are a few liposuction procedures available for you to consider depending on your aesthetic goals. Our award-winning plastic surgeons will determine the best treatment for you when you come in for a consultation.
What is VASER LipoSelection?
VASER® LipoSelection is a type of liposuction that employs a low level of ultrasonic energy in order to gently break apart fat cells. The energy that is emitted by VASER is transmitted to fat cells with the use of small probes, resulting in a less invasive type of liposuction. Once the fat cells have been successfully “shaken” apart, they are then removed from the body with the use of liposuction.

How do I know if liposuction is right for me?
When you have your consultation at CAPS, our plastic surgeons will determine if liposuction will work for you and your body. During your consultation, your doctor will explain the full procedure to you and will ask you several questions, including:
Why do you want liposuction?
What area(s) of your body do you want to receive liposuction on?
What are your expectations for the procedure?
What is your desired outcome?
Do you have any drug allergies?
What previous medical treatments have you received?
Have you had any previous surgeries? If so, what were they?
In addition to asking these questions, your plastic surgeon will use your consultation to evaluate your general health status and any preexisting health conditions or risk factors you may have, discuss your liposuction options, take photographs for your medical record, recommend a course of treatment, discuss likely outcomes of liposuction and any risks or potential complications, and answer your questions.
What to expect when you choose a liposuction treatment with CAPS
Your first visit
The first appointment that you will be required to attend is your liposuction consultation. The goal of the consultation is to determine if liposuction is the right choice for you.
Once it is determined liposuction will be the best choice for your body goals, you may be asked to get lab testing or a medical evaluation, take certain medications or adjust your current medications, stop smoking, and avoid taking aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs, and herbal supplements that may increase bleeding.
We will also give you special instructions about what to do the night before and morning of your surgery and regarding your post-operative care and follow-up appointments.
The procedure
At your liposuction procedure, you’ll be administered local and/or sedative anesthesia. Your plastic surgeon will recommend the anesthesia option that is best for you. Then, your skilled plastic surgeon and their well-trained support staff will perform the liposuction. The exact procedure will vary depending on your unique needs and desired outcomes. Your doctor can walk you through every step of the procedure when you meet for your consultation.
After the treatments
Your doctor will give you instructions regarding your post-operative care. Liposuction usually requires minimal downtime, but this will vary depending on your procedure.
FAQs
Liposuction
Yes! Many people refer to liposuction of the abdomen, waist, and hips (which reach around to either side of the spine) a Lipo 360. This is different from full-body liposuction, and you'll work closely with your plastic surgeon to determine if a Lipo 360 will get you the results you want.
Liposuction does eliminate fat cells in the targeted area for good. As long as you maintain your weight, you should maintain most of the contours from your procedure.
The results of liposuction will be long-lasting, so long as you maintain a stable weight and general fitness. You may notice some changes as you age, but your more refined body contours should be permanent.
As soon as the swelling and water retention that tend to occur after liposuction have decreased, your results will be visible.
