Recover Well: Rhinoplasty

rhinoplasty before and after

Choosing to have a rhinoplasty, also known as a nose job, is a big decision. As with all surgeries, you should consult with a trusted doctor before deciding if it is right for you.

At CAPS, you’ll have the opportunity to speak with one of our five Board Certified Plastic Surgeons, who will help you determine the best possible surgical plan. After your surgery, your body will need time to heal before seeing the results. Below, you’ll find our top tips to ensure you recover well from your rhinoplasty.

1. Know What To Expect
It’s important to remember that a rhinoplasty is a serious surgery. This means your body will need some time to heal before you’ll be able to see your full results.

Typically, individuals who have rhinoplasties feel “public ready” about two weeks after their surgeries. At this point, however, you’ll probably still have a bit of swelling. Within four weeks of the surgery, up to 90% of your swelling should be gone. It may take up to a year before you see your full results.

2. Take It Easy
After your rhinoplasty, you’ll notice some swelling on and around your nose. This is completely normal and is simply a part of your body’s healing process. It’s important not to overexert yourself at this time as raising your blood pressure can increase swelling. While you let your body heal, pamper yourself with a “staycation” at home, catch up on your reading or watch your favorite movies!

3. Keep Your Head Up
While you heal, be sure to keep your head elevated. Doing so will help to reduce swelling and will speed along your recovery. Your head should be kept above your chest during recovery, including when you sleep.

4. Protect Your Nose
During your recovery, you’ll need to be careful to protect your nose. This means avoiding strenuous activities that could result in injury. If you do happen to injure your nose while in recovery, it’s important to see your doctor as soon as possible.

We hope these tips will help prepare you for a quick and comfortable recovery after your rhinoplasty. In addition to following these tips, it’s important to choose a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon you trust.
